The program lasts two years and consists of 36 hours of study, and each student’s curriculum can be custom tailored to their research interests and career goals. I have been hearing more and more about empowering students to customize their degree plans at universities around the world, and it is very exciting to see the University of Houston offer a degree like this that has so much flexibility in coursework.

How can we at 3DCAMP ever say thanks to the University of Houston for all they have done to make 3DCAMP Houston 2012 a success? We thought it would be a good start to send some giant cookies.

As reported the Maintenance men at the SEC were so helpful in hanging the banners that we felt it only right to give them a cookie for all of their help.

Rex Koontz from the University of Houston Arts department was also given a cookie and a 3DCAMP t shirt as thanks for their sponsorship.

We had hoped to give the 3DCAMP cookie to Mark Smith the Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.  Dean Smith was immediately receptive to the idea of 3DCAMP as soon as it was presented.  Thank you very much.  Kathy Major helped us considerably with PR for 3DCAMP and  graciously accepted the cookie and 3DCAMP t-shirt for the department.

A very big thanks to the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Our initial intent was also to choose the winner at the closing sessions. This obviously did not happen. We sincerely apologize. When we made this random choice we wanted to be sure no speakers, volunteers, or vendors were included in the drawing seeing as they were not eligible to win. We are thrilled with the turnout and the ability to share 3D Technology and are looking forward to next year.

Houston Rapid Prototyping is a subsidiary of Action Figure Labs that provides rapid prototyping services to the Houston area community.

I love our new logo for 3DCAMP, and on a banner I love it even more!

It is the day before 3DCAMP Houston 2012.  Our committee is a buzz with all of the last minute details.  We are happy to say that our attendance is much higher than we expected.  We had the capacity for 500 at this moment it is at 271 and rising. We don’t know what to expect for walk-ins but we are encouraging everyone to register through the website, because that is what you will have to do once you arrive, if you are not registered.

First, a shout out to Christina Sizemore of Diliberto Photo and Design who has been diligently working on all of our graphics, including our new logo, banners, t-shirts and program.  She has worked under a very tight deadline with excitement and enthusiasm.

Next, A huge thanks to one of our speakers Steven Ramirez of Smash Designs. Smash Designs generously donated all of our banners for 3DCAMP.  They came to the University of Houston Department of Sciences and Mathematics this morning and helped us hang them.  Thank you Smash Designs  for the generous donation.   I would be amiss if I did not also send a thanks out to building Services for the SEC.  Thank you

Maybe this sign should have been smaller, so that people could get under it. Anyone walking through this way today will have to notice 3DCAMP

Danny, Mike, Mark and Ken for helping us to figure out how to hang the banners. They even climbed on the roof to see the possibilities, even though one was afraid of heights.  The large 3DCAMP sign looks small against the front of the SEC building, but it should help everyone find 3DCAMP  tomorrow morning. And we are growing so maybe next year we grow into a bigger sign!

A student or teacher liaison is an ambassador for 3DCAMP Houston in their own community. It is very simple. You love what 3DCAMP has to offer and you share that passion with others.

What is a 3DCAMP Student Liaison?

• A 3DCAMP Student Liaison helps to spreads the word to their own classmates as well as others within their department.
• They copy flyers, with departments permission, and distributes them to classmates and hang them in designated areas.
• A liaison talks to groups about 3DCAMP and encourages others to be involved in the education that 3DCAMP offers.
• Working with teacher Liaisons  a student liaison sometimes persuades teachers to include the promotion of 3DCAMP within their own course work ( see below)
• Commits to spreading the word about 3DCAMP in their own social networking circles.
• Helps to encourage submission to 3DCAMP art shows and other special events.
• Reports to the 3DCAMP Student Liaison chair ( we don’t have one of those yet) and reports to the 3DCAMP Planning Committee about all the great things  student and teacher liaisons are doing.

What is a 3DCAMP Teacher Liaison?

• A 3DCAMP Teacher Liaison helps to spreads the word to their students as well as others within their departments and school
• They encourage the involvement of Student Liaisons
• They copy flyers, and distributes them to students, some teacher liaisons give extra credit for those who attend 3DCAMP!
• A liaison talks to groups about 3DCAMP and encourages others to be involved in the education that 3DCAMP offers.
• Commits to spreading the word about 3DCAMP in their own school, educational and social networking circles.
• Helps to encourage submission to 3DCAMP art shows and other special events.
• Reports to the 3DCAMP Teacher Liaison chair (we don’t have one of those yet) and reports to the 3DCAMP Planning Committee.

What you can tell others

3DCAMP Houston is a one day event packed with everything 3D.  There are 15 different speakers on a variety of topics and disciplins.  3DCAMP Houston is all about education and is working hard to figure out ways to educate individuals.  This year 3DCAMP  is being hosted by the University of Houston Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in conjunction with the School of Art and is open to the public.  It cost only $15. to register, and that includes lunch.  There are going to be vendors showing their products and an art show. There is still time to get into the art show. Just check everything out on their website at www.3dcamphouston.com and then register. When you go to their website you might also sign up for their newsletter, they are going to announce other things that are happening through the newsletter.  Oh, and they are giving away some great door prizes at the end of the 3DCAMP event. We are talking software like ZBrush, and Poser and some other incredible stuff. Where else can you go and mingle with professionals and those interested in 3D?

3DCAMP 2012 Student Liaisons

Evan Lee

Our first Student Liaison- Evan Lee is a University of Houston graduate student in the Interdisciplinary practices and Emerging Forms concentration.

Evan has been a student at the University of Houston for four years. He  graduated from the Honors college in spring 2012 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Art and graduated Cum Laude with University Honors. He has been interested in new media and related three dimensional art forms and over the past fews years has noticed there are quite a few others interested in this technology as well. He took some new media courses at U of H (including Jasleen’s digital fabrication in the arts course) and decided he needed to join the Interdisciplinary Practices and Emerging Forms concentration (IPEF/New Media) while working towards his master’s degree in the school of art. Over the summer he designed / built my own CNC router. He found out about 3dCamp through a friend , and has heard of Tx/Rx ( one of our sponsors ) through a few friends and intend to join. He is really excited to see what others are doing who share the same interest.

My Animation department is small, it consist of me and my passion. I work hard to give my kids the knowledge they need to be successful and they in turn do me proud by taking my advice. I am lucky to be an Animation teacher, a creative dynamics field. It keeps me on my toes!
 I like 3DCAMP, because there is not enough celebration of art in the world and 3DCAMP has brought a celebration close to home! 3D Camp is a great place to meet like minds and share your passion.

Some of us took a trip today  to the University of Houston Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and looked at the campus. It was fun to review the possibilities for 3DCAMP Houston 2012! It is hard to believe it is less than 45 days away!
